“Only the sun was witness”, two books with drawings, poems and texts made by refugees from all over the world, table, stool, yarn, installed at the solo exhibition “The Image as The Witness” at Mémoire de l’Avenir , Paris 2018.

Only the sun was witness
The project was a collaboration between me and Jelling Asylum Center in Denmark.
In the spring of 2017 did I held a workshop where refugees made drawings, wrote poems and other texts about their escape from their home country and wishes for their very uncertain future.

I was interested in meeting, hearing and seeing testimonies from one of the most vulnerable groups of people; refugees who often do not get the possibility to tell their own individual story.
66 persons did participate in the project and each one of them did make a drawing, a poem or wrote a text about their life.
When the books were first exhibited at Vejle Art Museum in Denmark in 2017, they got water damaged giving the drawings a slightly ruined and fragile quality, which I think only contribute to the project.
In 2018 did I remake the work into an installation for my solo exhibition at Mémoire de l’Avenir in Paris.
