“Post Trauma Documents”, 2011-15. 15 textile works, one object + one photograph.


Post Trauma Documents
I was assaulted in Rome in 2002 and nine years later did I return to the crime scene, trying to recall memoires of the assault and the time after.

I photographed myself at the crime scene and worked with text-based textiles, where my own fragmented memories are put into play with testimonies from other victims I found on the internet.

In the textile works do I operate with an I, a you and we, voices from different positions. The feeling of standing outside the so-called "common human experience" and the invisibility victims of violence experience socially and culturally, which often causes them to feel unreal and alienated.

In Post Trauma Document: letter to x do I work with the recollection of how my assailant became a part of me. Something I could not escape or get rid of, a psychological phenomenon which victims of violence and sexual assault often experience, that the boundaries are broken down and the self does not exist anymore, but is taken over by a stranger.

Post Trauma Document: ashes to ashes consists of a glass jar bought in Rome with ashes from my medical reports 2002-06.

The works in Post Trauma Documents was produced in 2011-15 and I’ve had three residencies at Circolo Scandinavo in Rome to work on the project.
