“The Order of EMPATHY”, silk, cotton pads, pins, stone, wood 210x130 cm. 25x20x12 cm. 2016-17.

The Order of EMPATHY
"The Order of EMPATHY" is a work dealing with reparative strategies, attempting to heal wounds from patriarchy culture and its often-violent actions towards mankind. In the Western world we are constantly witness to a crisis of democracy and therefore also a crisis of empathy, a crisis of masculinity and a crisis of empathic touch and vision.

The work consists of 209 hand-sewn silk and cotton pads pinned to the wall in a grid-like structure with an object on the floor, the stone is from the crime scene where I was assaulted in 2002*, the wooden block is from South Africa before Apartheid ended.
