Nijinsky Notes

Nijinsky Notes is a solo show that is based on Vaslav Nijinsky’s (RUS 1889-1950) diaries, written during 6 weeks in the period January 19 to March 4, 1919. Nijinsky had just been admitted to a mental hospital and the diaries are a manic document, written by the most celebrated dancer and innovative choreographer of his time.
The diaries consists of drawings and texts, written by a man trapped in a psychotic state, at the same time the diaries is highly reflective and contains insights about human existence and his relationship with God, sex, body, love and art. The works references several artists, among them the poet Sylvia Plath and the playwright Sarah Kane.
Nijinsky Notes consists of works in silk, urine, painting, photogravure and a box with 45 performative photographs titled Rehearsal (sacre du printemps).
