The End of Patriarchy is a work made especially for an exhibition at Kunsthal Vejle
The End of Patriarchy is a work that is made especially for an exhibition about sexism at Kunsthal Vejle, in Denmark 9/1 – 31/3 – 20121. Kunsthal Vejle is an automat in a public square in Vejle and it was originally used for selling porn magazines and condoms.
The work consists of two text-based photographs as well as an interaction with citizens / visitors in Vejle. The first photo articulates a sexist, male-dominated and violent culture via a text sampled from packaging of sex dolls, staging the woman as a passive object that exists solely to fulfill the man’s desire for satisfaction and dominance. In the second photo, citizens are invited to participate in creating a new world order based upon equality between gender, sexuality and race – by supporting and acting against the patriarchal power structures in both the private sphere and in society.
As an encouragement and support in this fight, individuals can email their name and address to the artist, who then sends a copy of the work by post.
