CUT is a circular video & sound loop projected on the floor
CUT is a circular video & sound loop projected on the floor. The material for the video is footage filmed by surgeon Tom Christensen during an operation of me. A camera was placed in the prostate while a laser burnt tissue away. Throughout the procedure the surgeon remembered that I was an artist who worked with the body, so he filmed the operation without my knowledge and presented me with the material while I was recovering in the hospital bed.
The body in surgery becomes an alienated object, to be cut, altered and transformed, a body in total control of others.
CUT was first exhibited in the solo show History of Violence, Galleri Image, Aarhus, Denmark and was later shown in A Destructive Act, GAZE Contemporary Art Space, Shrewsbury, UK, both in 2021.
