Empire of The Senseless consists of a Chinese teahouse made of metals grits and silk. Inside there is a text, written by me that put Chinas sex industry into perspective. One can hear my voice in headphones and see a textual video projection on the floor; both are deconstructed from Jane Fonda’s monologues from the movie Klute (Alan J. Pakula, 1971). I play the Jane Fonda part, a prostitute who is both questioning her inner (traumatic) self and engages in negotiations with a customer.
I see the installation as a chorus of voices and it includes quotes by Hannah Arendt and John Stoltenberg. It is a setting for negotiations between people in sexual encounters and was part of the exhibition China Shop. State of Emergency at Overgaden – The Institute of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen in 2009 and later shown in my solo exhibition Post Trauma Documents at Västeråas Art Museum, Västerås, Sweden in 2016.
